The city wall

After the project to retrace the line of the Heptastadion, we set about a study to trace the city wall, or indeed walls. There have been at least three, the lines of which have remained a subject of discussion without any new elements to allow for a choice between the different hypothesis. By putting together different talents - from a specialist in Greek siege tactics to remote sensing geophysicists - we hope, during the coming years, to be able to put forward new propositions regarding the line of the ancient city walls and the surface area of the town, subjects which until now have been often debated without sufficient argumentation. As well as observing subsoil anomalies, some preliminary trenches will probably be necessary. The first of these is proposed for autumn of 2001.
