This volume presents new information in the search for Alexandria's late Roman and medieval history. Different types of sources are juxtaposed in order to recreate the topography of Christian Alexandria and its churches. Medieval Alexandria is studied from different points of view: religion of both Christians and Muslims in the 12th and 13th centuries, commerce as seen through the evidence of ceramics. Particular attention is paid to the earthquakes that struck Alexandria and its Pharos, and to the still little known subject of Islamic architecture in the city. | |||||
