A Short Guide to the Graeco-Roman Museum, Alexandria
Jean-Yves Empereur

Published by Harpocrates

Founded in 1892, the Gręco-Roman Museum of Alexandria has already celebrated its centenary. Its vast collection, gathered together over these hundred years, is the product of donations from wealthy Alexandrians as well as of excavations led by successive directors of the institution, both within the town and its environs. Certain other objects have come from the Organisation of Antiquities at Cairo

A visit to the Museum is an excellent introduction to the Greek and Roman art of Egypt and is part of a journey through the history of this country, complementing visits to the three museums of Cairo, which present the other eras of Egypt's heritage: The Egyptian Museum (Pharaonic), The Coptic Museum and The Islamic Museum.
