Since 1999, the CEA has invested hugely in the refurbishing
of 19th century building, once part of an arsenal, in order to create
a true storehouse for the digs as well as a space for restoring and studying
archaeological artefacts.
The building consists of 14 rooms on two levels.
The 7 rooms in the basement have all be part of the project of renewal,
whereas only three of the upper floor rooms have been transformed.
Four
rooms on the lower level are reserved for storage, one of which holds only
stonework. Total capacity (excluding the racks for stonework) is for about
1680 cases and 7056 boxes. The other 3 rooms on this level are to be used
for the conservation and restoration of painted plaster and mosaics.

On
the upper level, one of the rooms has been adapted for metal restoration
and the study of artefacts (capacity of artefacts under study: 3888 boxes).
The
other two are reserved for "treasure"; that is, artefacts selected by the
Egyptian antiquities service.
