RESTORATION OF ARTEFACTS

Ceramic restoration

Ceramics make up the largest part of the artefacts unearthed during archaeological excavations. Thanks to the variety of different studies of which they are the object (form, style, decoration, composition of the clay, method of firing), they allow us to date an archaeological level and they inform us of the life style of their users, commercial exchanges, etc.

The restoration of the ceramics is important in their study, however, all the ceramics found in the excavations cannot be restored and a choice must be made. Out of the mass discovered, certain examples stand out. Such is the case of this Hellenistic volute krater that was restored during the summer campaign of 2001.
